April 2020 to current. Deckhand, Mate, Skipper. Keynvor Morlift.
The past three years have been working with Marine Civil Engineering firm Keynvor Morlift based in Falmouth.
Since starting there I have covered many different roles across the fleet filling in for crew on a self employed basis, these include;
Severn Sea- Ex Swedish Navy Workboat/Research vessel, served as Mate. Bouy Maintenance with Fugro Wave data collection
bouys, Bristol channel and southcoast. ROV operations in Ramsey sound and north Cornwall. Two trips with BBC camera crew in
north Devon and Ireland filming whales and dolphins.
Sarah Grey- Multicat. Served as mate for various tows mostly south and east coast of England. Both longer distance tows and
barge moves in port as composite unit. Dry dock period in Penzance, finishing interior to high standard, placing decking and lots
of chipping and painting
Venture- 30m Tug. Served as mate for various tows through difficult conditions and heavy traffic areas around Dover/Thames.
More heavily involved in the administrative side of running a vessel here including passage and pilotage plans, with particular
emphasis on timing and calculating accurate and reliable ETAs.
New Ross- 15m Tug. Mate and Skipper. Assist tug to barge moves and beach landings. Skippered the New Ross in Falmouth for
river work and to get it through yearly Brown Code survey. Often transferring personel to and from barges.
BD6072- Crane Barge. Slinger Banksman. Involved in replacement of anchor chains on Europe’s biggest floating wind turbine in
the Bay of Biscay, jobs included slinger banksman, night watchman while tethered to the asset and shoreside liaison officer
while ashore in France waiting on weather.
Other jobs with KML include yard worker, operating Telehandlers and forklifts and runner for the other barges KML own. This
has been a busy two year period and I have learnt a lot, cementing previous skills in place and learning a lot of new ones.
Despite being new to workboats when I first started I was quickly given roles with more and more responsibility.
Also worked as Marine Coodinator/ Assistant OCM while decommissioning a Met Mast in the North Sea, heavily involved with
Risk Assessments and Permits while in this role.
14th May 2019 to Oct 2019- Deckhand/Bosun aboard S/Y Twizzle. 58m
Joined Twizzle in Brisbane and sailed to New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands.
Watchkeeper for day and night passages, sailing with high load hydraulic rig and safely working aloft on the masts. Helped the
bridge team with the operation and navigation and the vessel in remote areas and sometimes uncharted passages.
Heavily involved in tender launch/recovery onto deck with crane and wide array of water sports and diving.
April 2019 Day Worker M/Y Willpower
Temporary contract on a private motor yacht in the shipyard, primarily polishing gelcoat.
March/April 2019- Day Worker M/Y Bunty
Was asked to cover an injured deckhand for 6 weeks while the boat got ready for the season.
Jobs completed included final couple of coats of Polyurethane varnish on capping rails, deck caulking repairs, sika application
and gelcoat polishing.
15th May 2017 to November 2018- Deckhand aboard M/Y Willow. 42m
Deckhand/OOW on board a new build dual use private and charter boat. Heavily involved in the creation and implementation of
the ships SMS to bring the vessel to commercial standard, this included writing procedures and guidelines for standard practice
tasks.
Very busy 2017 season from delivery at the end of May until September with back to back boss trips and charters. 24 and 48
hour turn arounds were standard with a total of 90+ days of vessel use. Considerable Jet Tender experience towing inflatables,
water sports equipment and transporting guests. Assisted the mate in giving Jet Ski instruction.
During the winter period I worked closely with contractors doing warranty work. Did a considerable amount of painting including
spray painting and finishing AWL grip and AWL craft paint systems to a high standard.
Other work included; streamlining of SMS system, regular monthly and quarterly LSA and FFA checks and maintenance, mastic
filler jobs, chart corrections, winterising the boat and reorganising the boat ready for this season.
As an OOW I was able to hold my own navigational watches both this season and last and have been heavily involved in passage
planning operations. During both seasons I have ran the forward mooring area and have on occasion called distances on the aft.
Merchant Navy Cadetship
Sept 2013- June 2016 Evergreen Marine UK/SSTG Deck Cadet
Three year merchant navy cadetship with the academic side and all STCW short courses completed at Warsash Maritime
Academy.
05/02/14 - 08/07/14 - Ever Lambent 98,882gt Container Ship on China to Western Europe liner service.
As a first trip cadet, this sea phase consisted of mostly deck work and observation of shipboard operations.
06/07/15 – 31/10/15- Ever Smile 75,246gt Container Ship on China to West Coast USA liner service.
After more comprehensive classroom training I was more able contribute to the operations and watch keeping. This included
passage planning on paper and ECDIS, helm time in open sea and pilotage waters.
24/11/2015 – 04/04/2016 – Ever Lifting 99,946gt Container ship, New Fleet edition launched in August 2015. China to Middle
East liner service. Whilst on board assisted with the MCA initial sea going audit. Was able to fully assist the OOW in all duties
including LSA and FFA maintenance, bunkering and mooring/tug operations.
